Personal Pronoun

DEFINITION

Personal Pronoun is a pronoun used for people, animals, objects, or specifically things. The form of the pronoun depending on the role (subject, object, possessive), on their gender, and number of the noun that it replaces.

EXAMPLE

Personal Pronoun as Subject

He is a politician. (Dia adalah politisi)

It is the most delicious cake that I have ever eaten. (Ini kue terlezat yang pernah saya makan)

Personal Pronoun as Object

Everybody is enthusiastic to help her. (Setiap orang antusias membantunya)

He lent me two interesting books.  (Dia meminjamkan saya dua buku yang menarik)

If only he shared his problem with me. (Seandainya dia membagi masalahnya kepada saya)

2.      Possessive Pronoun

DEFINITION

Possessive Pronoun is a pronoun that can take the place of a noun phrase to show ownership (as in “This phone is mine”).

EXAMPLE

Possessive Pronoun as Subject

Mine has worn out. (Punya saya sudah usang)

Ours is better than theirs. (Punya kita lebih baik dari punya mereka)

Possessive Pronoun as Object

I like hers. (Saya suka punyanya)

If you look at my writing, I’ll look at yours. (Jika kamu memeriksa tulisan saya, saya akan memeriksa punyamu)

3.      Reflexive Pronoun

DEFINITION

Reflexive Pronoun is a pronoun used to indicate that the subject (such as people or animals) receives the action of the verb (reciprocal action) in a sentence.

EXAMPLE

I’m going to buy myself new jeans. (Saya akan membeli jeans baru untuk saya sendiri)

Why don’t you watch yourselves on TV ?(Mengapa kamu tidak menonton dirimu di TV ?)

The cat is licking itself. (Kucing itu sedang memukuli dirinya)

We should give time for ourselves to take a rest. (Kita seharusnya memberi waktu untuk diri kita sendiri untuk beristirahat)
